London’s Best Health Food Shops

The influx of health food shops and cafes in London has gone wild in the past few years. Chains and independent stores have cropped up on every high street to cater to our growing interest in nutrition and wellness. Here’s a look at five of our favourite destinations across the capital and what they have to offer.

Rude Health

Perhaps the most colourful shop in London, Rude Health makes tempting food and drinks for the whole family. It prides itself on using only the ingredients you’d find in your own pantry – no thickeners, preservatives or colourings – just natural food that stays true to the motto ‘Eat right, stay brilliant’. The cafe sells its own branded range of mueslis, crackers and snacks (including fun cereals for kids) as well as serving breakfast and lunch. Think avocado on sourdough toast and veggie Thai green curry.

It sells organic fruit vegetables, bread from craft bakeries, artisan cheeses, and all your store cupboard essentials ranging from nuts, seeds and grains to chocolate and olive oil. All of its fresh dishes are prepared with ingredients from the shop so that you can have the convenience of popping in to pick up vegetarian and vegan hot meals and salads throughout the day.

As Nature Intended

As Nature Intended isn’t just good for you, it also considers the environment, animal welfare, fair trade practices and small British suppliers when choosing its stock. As well as doing your weekly food shop at this chain of shops across London, you can find a range of natural remedies to treat many ailments, including acne, IBS and high blood pressure. Each store also has qualified nutritionists and herbalists on hand to give you sound advice.

Healthy stuff

This Hackney-based store and cafe sells good foods and coffee without being preoccupied with organic or sugar-free labels. Instead, it focuses on wholesome food and a balanced diet. You can do your weekly shop here (household products included) but we recommend trying the enticing menu served every day, including sandwiches, salads, smoothies and gluten-free cakes.
